Queanbeyan Performing Arts Centre, Music - Learning to Appreciate ...

Theatre plays a very important role in the lives of people. Most may not be aware of it, but theatre is like a mirror that shows people who they really are, their thoughts, their emotions and even their dreams and aspirations. Unconsciously, the viewer gets drawn to those theatre shows that ring a bell or strike a familiar chord.

Emotional Showcase

As the viewers are capable of feeling a whole range of emotions, theatre can showcase all of those emotions as well. You have the usual theatre genre - Dramas, Musicals, Comedies and even Tragedies. The list goes on and on especially these days where people are more open in showing their beliefs and personal preferences. What has been a taboo in the past can now be shown in theatres.

Theatre scripts that showcase the writer's own convictions are nothing new these days. In fact, most of the theatre shows that catch the viewers and critics attention are those that speak the truth even when it is not the norm -those topics that are considered treading on thin ice.

Controversial topics do not have to be depicted seriously. In fact, a number of the box office hits at the Queanbeyan Performing Arts Centre, or "The Q", showcase serious topics but are written in a way that speaks to you but it doesn't make you leave with a heavy heart afterward - an example is Chasing the Lollyman. According to Baz McAlister of the Time Off Magazine, Chasing The Lollyman is "a light-hearted but surprisingly deep and personal look at the Murri culture".

Theatre is not only about dramas but it is also about comedies and mysteries as well. There is surely something that can satisfy every person's need.

Enjoying Theatre

Not everybody is inclined to watch theatre shows. If you are a first timer, you don't have to go far because there are theatre shows in Canberra that can help you in your journey towards enjoying theatre.

One of the most important things to bring, aside from your ticket of course, is an open mind. It is perfectly okay to go inside the theatre with a critical mind but you also have to be open-minded so you can grasp and see what the show is all about. You may not agree with everything you see but there is something that you can always bring home with you if you just keep an open mind. Theatre, they say, mimics life or it can also be the other way around.
