More and more people these days are believing that they are not good enough. Watching TV and reading beauty magazines can make you feel like you are not pretty enough or smart enough. But you should ask yourself, ?good enough for what?? Perhaps you don?t have as much money as your friends do, or your hair isn?t as ?nice.? Whatever it may be that you?re unsatisfied with, take a moment and discard all those negative thoughts.
But, how can you improve on how you view yourself? Because self esteem is simply how you view yourself, it is not at all how others view you. Your perception is often warped because you have been trapped in someone else?s view of what you should look like. And when you can?t fit the mold, you devalue yourself.
First off, evaluate yourself for all the good traits you have. What good qualities do you possess? If you say ?none,? you have obviously not studied yourself long enough. Maybe you have spent so long trying to acquire someone else?s gifts that you have yet to realize your own. Are you a good speaker or counselor? Maybe you draw well. You could be a good listener. Everyone has a certain gift that makes them unique and special in some way.
Look at yourself in the mirror. You may be or feel overweight. There may be a certain flaw that you notice that you don?t particularly like. What you need to understand is that everything about you is what makes you unique. The happiest people in the world aren?t the prettiest people. If that were true, all models and superstars would live extremely happy lives.
Studies have shown that the happiest people in the world are those that are content and grateful for what they have and who they are. Remove negative people from your life. You tend to act and think like those around you. By surrounding yourself with negative people, you only set yourself up to constantly think negative thoughts. When you surround yourself with happier people, the happiness tends to rub off on you, and you in turn become happier.
